Wavyn Launches a Safe-Driving App with Collision Alerts
SAN FRANCISCO – October 21, 2019 – Wavyn has launched a free driving safety app that helps drivers avoid distractions and prevent collisions. Wavyn scans traffic in your lane, monitors your speed, and tracks the driver’s phone usage to warn of potential crashes in real-time.
Tailgating, speeding, and distracted driving are all common causes of front-end collisions. These account for 40% of all car crashes (about 2.5 million a year in the U.S.) according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Driver inexperience and bad driving habits can lead to accidents, which not only result in costly repairs but also put lives at risk.
The Wavyn app uses artificial intelligence to monitor the road and provide real-time alerts when drivers are following the vehicle ahead too closely. The app also detects speeding, rapid acceleration, and hard braking and creates an alert. Drivers receive a score, which will be higher if they drive safely. Drivers can review statistics from previous trips to improve their performance.
“Wavyn keeps an eye on your safety every day,” said Wayvn CEO Rafael Marañón. “It helps improve defensive driving skills, and families can share trip scores to help each other learn to become better drivers.”
The Wavyn interface is easy to use. Just mount your smartphone on your windshield, and it's ready to go. The app begins scanning the road when you start your trip, all without you having to touch the phone. Wavyn motivates you to avoid using your phone while driving by awarding you a higher score on every ride when you leave it alone.
“The real-time alerts keep me aware and focused on the road,” said Sally Wilson, a schoolteacher from Raleigh. “Also, I can see on the weekly report that I'm using the phone much less while driving.”
